ABOUT THE ARTIST

Laurie Chamblee is a self taught artist who lives in Austin, Texas. Surrounded by the Texas Hill Country, her work is deeply influenced by the variety of textures and colors in landscapes and rich colorful sunsets.  With a strong background in the visual and performing arts, music remains a key component in the creation of her work.

Her work is predominately abstract and abstract landscape. She enjoys the total creation process of building the frame, stretching the canvas, and painting a piece of art that is an expression of her inner self. She especially enjoys the challenge and freedom that comes with creating large scale paintings. She paints predominately with acrylics, creating depth and texture using a variety of mixed media.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I have always had a passion for the Visual and Performing Arts. Growing up, I immersed myself in ballet, music, theater, and photography. As a dancer, musician, and music composer, the creative process has always been an essential force in my life.

Today, music remains one of the greatest components in the creation of my work. I connect to the canvas by allowing the expressions of music guide my brush, textures, and color palette. Each painting is an expression of a personal place--layering my emotions and feelings onto the canvas.

I primarily paint with acrylics and enjoy experimenting with various textures and mixed media. As an avid traveler and artist living in Texas, many of my visual inspirations have come from places traveled around the world and the natural surroundings of the Texas Hill Country. I love to savor the beauty of landscapes and express those experiences in my paintings.
