Taormina
Taormina was one of my favorite places we stayed along the tour. The city was clean and beautiful, tons of luring shops, and incredible views. What made Taormina stand out was that unlike Cefalu, the main steets were zoned so that no scooters or cars could go through, with the exception of the police and government vehicles. You could easily stroll the streets and admire the beauty of the surroundings without the stress and noise of cars and scooters.

Giorno 8
Our first evening in Taormina, Alfio took us to a family owed Pizzeria just next to our hotel for dinner where we had the option to make our own pizza. I had a lot of fun this evening creating my own pizza and then sitting around a large table outside with the group, drinking lots of wine, eating great pizza, and having a lot of laughs. |

After dinner at the pizzeria, we went back to the hotel and enjoyed the rest of the evening out on the terrace of the hotel. There, we had an amazing view of Taormina and an unexpected display of fireworks. We drank ourselves silly and had a great night. Richard and Alfio tried to impress us with their display of "tolerance" when they began to mix their own "signature drinks" of wine, limoncello (a lemon liqueur), Fuco dell' Etna (a very potent cinnamon liqueur), and anything else they could find that had some percentage of alcohol.

| In the morning of day nine, we were lead by a local guide around the city of Taormina. Afterwards, Alfio took a small group of us down to explore the beautiful gardens in Taormina. That afternoon, our group rented two boats and were taken around to admire the coast of Taormina and swim in the ocean. |

Taormina has a Greek ruin of a theatre that they still use today for concerts and plays. On this particular day, preparations were underway for a concert by Julio Ingesia. I, unfortunately had to decline a private invitation.

Taromina was designed with tall buildings with interesting walkways and balconies decorated with colorful flowers. Each turn into a narrow passageway had its own unique surprise.
